Gordie Odjig is an Ojibway/Pottawatomi Indian and proud Wikwemikong Band Member. He has been dancing the Men's Fancy Feather Dance Style since he was 8 years old. He has been a singer with the Wikwemikong Drum Committee since 1973, and more recently, Woss-noh-deh, and Northern Lights Drum Groups.
Mr. Odjig also helped organize the Wikwemikong Annual Competition Pow Wow from 1976 to 1979. He is fluent in the Ojibway language, actively involved in local community cultural activities. He also attends local tribal ceremonies.
Gordie specializes in the Native Men's Fancy Feather Dance Style and is an accomplished Hoop Dancer. He has earned championship status at many cultural gatherings for his spectacular dancing displays.
Also known as a dance teacher, Mr. Odjig has been studying and practicing Hoop Dancing for a number of years now. He has taught Hoop Dancing to a number of students, including 2000/2003 World Hoop Dancing Champion Lisa Odjig.
Gordie is the Program Director at the local television station WIKY TV 5, Producer of the Manitoulin Island Drum and Dance Troupe, owner and host of En-Dye Inn Bed and Breakfast, owner and captain of Wiky Bay Tours, Special Events Coordinator (hosted at beach in front of his home), a professional Videographer, and Technical Advisor. Gordie loves to work outdoors and with people.
